WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE HITTING THE ROAD WITH YOUR TRAILER

Speed limits:

If the total weight of your car plus trailer is more than 3.5 tons you must drive at:

  • 90 km/h on highways and expressways
  • 80 km/h on secondary roads
  • 50 km/h in urban areas

Positioning on the road:

If the length of your vehicle + your trailer exceeds 7 meters, you must stay on the rightmost (leftmost for the UK and Ireland) lanes of the road during the trip. In addition to that, pay attention to narrow bends and respect safety distances.

When overtaking, it is recommended that you downshift in order to have more power and to make sure you have enough distance when you pull down.

Securing the trailer:

Lashing is mandatory and must comply with the European regulations EN 12195 (lashing condition) and R 312-19 (traction system). It is important to adapt it according to the characteristics of your boat and trailer.

We offer the Quickflex option on all our trailers, allowing you to transport your boat safely and in compliance with regulations

Feel free to use our configurator to determine your customized lashing kit

Trailer registration:

Trailers with a GVW less than or equal to 500 kg must have the same number plate as your vehicle.

If the GVW of your trailer is over 500 kg, you will have to register the trailer and therefore provide with a registration certificate.

Which license for which trailer:

  • Permit B:
    • For trailers with a GVW of less than 750 kg
    • And in the case where the total sum of the GVW of the vehicle and the trailer is less than or equal to 3.5 tones

  • Permit B with training B 96:
    • For trailers with a GVWR over 750 kg
    • And in the case where the total sum of the GVWR of the vehicle and the trailer is less than or equal to 4.25 tones

  • Permit BE:
    • For trailers with a GVW over 750 kg
    • And in the case where the total sum of the GVWR of the vehicle and the trailer exceeds 3.5 tones

Permis remorques B et BE

Braked or unbraked trailer:

A braked trailer is necessary in two cases:

  • Your trailer has a GVW of more than 750 kg.
  • Your trailer has a GVW greater than the empty weight of your vehicle.
