STAND ADJUSTMENT

THE WINCH SUPPORT STAND: FUNCTION

IMG_1003IMG_1244IMG_0863

It must support and provide an ideal position for the winch to facilitate boat lifting and launching operations. To do so, the stand must meet several conditions:

      • Resisting mechanical forces and leverage effects caused by the boat.
      • The forces supported by the stand, especially when the engine is taken out of the water, are extremely significant.
      • Tube designs are subject to high shear stress on the lower part, amplified by the clearances between the tubes. The higher the stand, the higher the leverage effect.
      • Position the winch and pulling line as low as possible.
      • The pulling line must be as low and as horizontal as possible to limit the nose lift of the boat when it exits the water. The stand stop must always be located slightly below the chain plate ring.
      • Leave sufficient room for the handle to turn freely.

The function of the independent tie-down system is to hold the boat on the trailer.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WINCH SUPPORT STAND ?

The only function of the winch stand is to support the winch and ensure an optimum pulling line which, associated with the launching system, will facilitate effortless boat handling. The bow stop helps to stop the boat when it is lifted, but is under no circumstances a tie-down point, nor a safety making it possible to stop the boat in the event of sudden braking or collision. A different tie-down compliant with the legislation must be used. It is important to get the best winching that the bow stop is positioned under the chain plate ring and that the winch is positioned slightly below the level of the chain plate ring so that the strap forms an upwards angle, or is at least horizontal when the boat is in contact with the bow stop. For semi-rigid hulls, the stand is thus most often positioned under the hull and not in front of the boat. Our winch supports come in several models and configurations to optimally fit all boat types. To find a suitable stand, several parameters must be taken into account:

  • The vertical distance between the chain plate ring and the joiner tube (trailer frame)
  • The type of hull (rigid or semi-rigid)
  • Eventually, in some cases, the distance between the handle axis and the hull/float

Each Nautilus, Rocca and Satellite trailer is fitted with a stand defined to fit, on average, the majority of hulls in view of the trailer dimension. However, this is sometimes not optimum. This is why we offer, at no extra cost and on request, to fit your trailer, when you buy it, with the stand of your choice. You just have to specify it when you order from your authorised dealer.

  • Micro Stand 40 >H< 60 cm
  • Mini Stand 60 >H< 75 cm
  • Average Stand High Stand 70 >H< 85cm
  • High Stand extension 80 >H< 95 cm
  • High Stand extension 95 >H< 110cm
  • Stand TS3000 H >110 cm

GOLIATH MARINE STAND IN PRESSED STEEL

Its double flying buttress design, in automobile pressed steel, gives it unparalleled resistance to pulling forces and leverage effects. It is designed, regardless of its height, for boats up to 2200 kg.

It is placed, stopped in high position,, under the chain plate ring. The eccentric adjustment of the arm provides an optimum abutment. This position determines the choice of the stand height for the boat and leaves sufficient room to the handle to ensure rotation without colliding with the hull, even with very low semi-rigid hulls.

Stands are delivered as standard with an angle and horizontal opening adjustable rubber stop to fit any hull.

For rounded hulls, we offer an articulated stop with a larger horizontal opening Attention, this stop is also longer by 10 cm.the stand arm then needs to be lowered, which will move back the boat correspondingly as you can see on the photo opposite. It is then necessary to reserve its use strictly for very rounded hulls (angle >90°).

This position also gives the winch a low and horizontal pulling line which, combined with the rear roller system of our trailers, limits the nose lift of the boat, which therefore requires a very low draught. This combination is optimum for launching without immersion, even on a shallow slipway.

Goliath Marine stand comes in 5 sizes to fit any hull and any configuration.

A box is available free of charge on request, for the Nautilus and Rocca brands.

An extension system can be fitted on all our stands and makes it possible to correct the winch position, by moving it towards the back, especially to fit a second-hand trailer to a new boat or for a one-time boat transport.

The stand should not to be used as a tie-down point or stop for the boat. In fact, NO stand is mechanically capable to prevent a boat from hitting the towing vehicle in case of accident or collision.
Likewise, while winching, it is not recommended to put the boat in contact with the rubber pad, even if the latter is designed to protect the hull.

The QuickFlex tie-down system ensures the safety and perfect hold of the boat during transport.
